About This Project
What is 24yr4.com?
24yr4.com is an independent project dedicated to tracking asteroid 2024 YR4 — a near-Earth object discovered on December 27, 2024, by NASA's ATLAS telescope in Chile. The asteroid has an estimated 4.3% probability of striking the Moon on December 22, 2032, which would be the most energetic lunar impact ever witnessed by humanity.
This site aggregates real-time orbital data, curates news and videos, and provides original analysis to keep you informed as the story unfolds over the coming years.
Is 2024 YR4 dangerous?
No threat to Earth. NASA and ESA have both confirmed that 2024 YR4 poses zero risk of impacting Earth in 2032 or beyond. The remaining scientific interest centres on a ~4.3% chance of a lunar impact, which would create a ~1km crater visible from Earth but cause no harm to our planet.
